Overview
Takewise is a local-first app. In this version, it does not require an account and it does not upload your saved library to a Takewise server. Takewise may still use third-party attribution and measurement services for app, device, and event data as described below.
Data we store
Takewise may store the following information on your device:
- The YouTube links you save.
- Official video metadata associated with those links, such as title and thumbnail.
- Any notes, transcript text, or source text you paste into the app.
- The takeaways generated from that pasted text.
- Basic local app preferences, such as whether you accepted the policy gate.
How we use it
Takewise uses saved links and official video metadata to help you label, revisit, and organize captures. It uses the text you paste into the app to draft structured takeaways for your own use.
Local storage
In this version, Takewise stores app data locally on your device through local app storage. Takewise does not create a user account for you and does not sync your saved library to a Takewise cloud service. The measurement services described below may receive app, device, and event data.
YouTube and third-party data
Takewise uses official YouTube video metadata to identify public videos and label saved captures. It does not download, copy, or store YouTube video or audio files.
When you save a link or open a source video, your device connects directly to YouTube or Google services to request metadata or open the video. Those services may receive technical request data, such as your IP address, as part of servicing the request.
Your use of Takewise is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Text messaging
If you choose to connect your phone number in Settings under Text to Takewise, Takewise uses your phone number to send a one-time verification code, connect that number to your app installation, and process YouTube links you text to the Takewise number.
Takewise may store your verified phone number, verification status, device installation identifier, push notification token, inbound SMS message identifiers, and the YouTube links or commands you send by SMS so it can create takes, prevent duplicate processing, deliver push notifications, and respond with service messages.
SMS delivery is provided by Twilio. Twilio and your mobile carrier may process message content and related technical data, such as phone numbers, message timestamps, delivery status, and carrier information, to send, receive, secure, and troubleshoot text messages.
Takewise does not sell your phone number or SMS consent, and does not share SMS opt-in data with third parties for their marketing. SMS data is shared only with service providers that help operate Takewise, such as Twilio for messaging delivery, or when required by law.
You can opt out of Takewise text messages by replying STOP. You can request help by replying HELP or contacting support@takewise.co. Message and data rates may apply. More detail about consent is available on the Text to Takewise SMS Consent page.
Attribution and measurement
Takewise may use attribution, analytics, and advertising measurement services, including AppsFlyer and Meta, to understand which ads or campaigns led to installs, measure app opens and conversion events, detect fraud, improve onboarding, and optimize marketing.
These services may receive technical and event data such as your IP address, device type, operating system, app version, install and session events, feature usage events, diagnostics, and advertising or vendor identifiers when they are available under your device settings and platform permissions.
On iOS, Takewise asks for App Tracking Transparency permission before allowing tracking across other companies' apps and websites or enabling advertiser tracking for Meta. If you decline or later disable tracking in iOS Settings, Takewise will not enable Meta advertiser tracking for your device, but may still use aggregated, contextual, fraud-prevention, or privacy-preserving measurement permitted by your settings and applicable platform rules.
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy notices, including the AppsFlyer Services Privacy Policy and Meta Privacy Policy.
Your controls
You can remove saved captures individually or clear all local data from the app settings at any time.
You can control tracking permission in iOS Settings. You can also limit or reset advertising identifiers in your device settings where your platform provides those controls.
